The short answers. If you want the long ones, the game guides go through every system properly.
Getting started
Is FM Worlds free?
Yes. The whole game is free to play. It is funded by advertising on the free tier and by an optional Gold upgrade, which is a one-off purchase rather than a subscription.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. If you want it to feel like an app you can add it to your home screen from your browser's own menu, and it will run in its own window with its own icon.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes — the whole game is designed to work on a phone as well as a desktop. Matchday screens, the tactics board and the transfer market are all usable on a small screen.
Do I need an account?
Yes. There is no guest mode, because the game is saving a career that runs for months. Signing up needs a display name, a permanent username, an email address and a password.
How much time does it actually take?
A few minutes a week is enough to compete. You set your team and your match plan in advance; the matches play themselves on schedule. You can spend far longer than that if you want to, but you do not have to.
How long is a season?
About five months of real time at normal speed. Worlds can also run at double speed (about two and a half months) or half speed (about ten). The speed is fixed when the world is created and shown on the world's card.
Playing matches
Do I have to be online when my match kicks off?
No, and this is the core design of the game. Matches play at their scheduled kick-off time whether you are there or not. Everything you want to influence is set beforehand.
Can I manage during the match?
No. There are no live shouts or in-match instructions. Instead you set your line-up, your team instructions, planned substitutions and conditional orders in advance — see the tactics guide.
What happens if I forget to pick a team?
You never forfeit. The game fields a sensible best eleven for you, including a goalkeeper. Picking your own side is better, but missing a week will not ruin your season.
When are matches played?
League matches on Tuesday and Friday evenings, domestic cup ties on Sunday, and continental matches on Wednesday. Divisions of 24 clubs also play Saturdays and some Thursdays to fit the longer season in.
Why is the score hidden after my match?
Two reasons. For fifteen real minutes after kick-off the match is treated as in progress and every screen hides the result. After that, results stay behind a Watch button so you can play the match back without spoiling it. You can always reveal it instead.
How many substitutions do I get?
Five, at minutes you choose in advance, and they can be conditional — only if you are leading, trailing or level. The bench is seven players by default, though a world can set it anywhere from five to twelve.
Worlds and multiplayer
What is a world?
A self-contained football universe: its own clubs, divisions, transfer market, calendar and managers. Nothing crosses between worlds. The league system guide explains how one is put together.
Can I manage more than one club?
One club per world, but as many worlds as you like. Your account, reputation and honours follow you across all of them.
What is the difference between career and realistic mode?
In realistic mode, squads mirror real football and player ratings are maintained to match reality. In career mode, players develop and decline through the game engine, and facilities, training, scouting and the medical room are all live.
Can I make my own world for me and my friends?
Yes. You can build a pyramid of up to six divisions and 120 clubs, set house rules, and keep it private behind a join code. Hosting your own world is a Gold feature; joining somebody else's with their code is always free.
Can I get sacked?
Yes. The board sets a target at the start of each season and warns you if you fall short — three warnings and you are gone. Some worlds also add a rule that automatically dismisses whoever finishes bottom.
What happens if I stop playing for a while?
After about four weeks of inactivity your club is released so somebody else can take it, and worlds can set a shorter limit. Your account, career record and honours are not affected.
Names and data packs
Why do players and clubs have generic names?
The game does not supply real-world names or badges itself. It ships with generic naming, and you can change what you see by loading a community-made data pack.
How do I get real names?
Load a data pack from the data pack page — there is a one-click option, or you can import a file or a link, or build your own.
Is my data pack uploaded anywhere?
No. A pack stays in your browser and is never sent to or stored on the servers. Remove it and everything reverts to generic names.
Gold, credits and ads
Is FM Worlds pay-to-win?
No. Nothing you can buy changes squad strength or match odds — credits and club money are entirely separate systems, and there is no way to convert one into the other. What money buys is information and convenience: scouting, opponent reports, the assistant manager and the match predictor.
What does Gold give me?
National team management, the Assistant Manager, the Oracle match predictor, world hosting, custom press answers, and no advertising. It is a one-off purchase, not a subscription. Details on the Gold page.
What are credits for?
Exactly three things: sending a scout, unlocking a detailed opponent report, and buying Gold. You get a batch free when you sign up, and they belong to your account rather than to one club.
Why am I seeing ads?
Advertising on the free tier is what keeps the game free for everyone. Gold members see none. How advertising cookies are used is set out in our privacy policy.
Account and support
Can I change my name?
Your display name and avatar can be changed at any time in settings. Your username is permanent — it is your handle across the game — so choose it carefully at sign-up.
I have forgotten my password.
Use the Forgot password? link on the login page and you will be emailed a reset link.
How do I get help, report a bug or delete my account?
Everything goes through the contact page — support, bug reports, privacy requests and account deletion. There is also a community Discord where players and the developer talk.
Still stuck? The contact page reaches us directly, and we read everything.
